Sono Sr Judy Cheruvally. Sto lavorando nella formazione con le Postulanti.

Attualmente ci sono tre regazze : Rashmi, Amrita e Krupa.

Loro vengono dai diversi stati dell`India e ognuno ha propria lingua, cultura, e tradizioni.

In India normalmente le ragazze entrano nel convento  dopo il secondo anno di scuola superiore e poi, dopo un anno di esperienza nella comunità, completano lo studio della dodicesima classe o pre-università. 

In questi tre anni iniziali della formazione le formanti acquistono l’esperienza della vita comunitaria, della preghiera, delle attività comunitarie, imparano la lingua Inglese, conoscono la vita di San Vincenzo, studiano il catechismo di base, imparano a pregare con la comunità e alla fine di questi tre anni fanno un discernimento proprio sulla loro chiamata.

Molte ragazze lasciano e ritornano a casa dopo questo periodo di tre anni. 

Le aspiranti che rimangono entrano nel pre postulantato che ha la durata di 6 mesi e poi continuano il cammino del Postulantato per un anno.

La mia responsabilità, come maestra delle postulanti, è quella di stare accanto e accompagnarle.

Dall’inizio della formazione, cominciato in India, ho lavorato tanti anni, sia con le postulanti e sia con le juniors, poi ho avuto altri compiti. 

Dopo tanti anni sono entrata di nuovo nel cammino formativo e vedo che c’è un cambiamento radicale nei giovani, sia nella mentalità, sia nelle attitudini, come nei caratteri e nelle relazioni interpersonali ed anche a livello della fede.

I giovani sono soffocati dalle cose che sembrono indispenasabili nella loro vita.  Perchè sia le varie possibilità che gli studi offrono loro tante distrazioni, poi ci sono le influenze degli amici, le paure e le incertezze della  vita che diventano forti tentazione per lasciare la vocazione religiosa. 

In India, essendo una nazione molto avanzata  sul campo informatico, della comunicazione e della tecnologia, i giovani sono molto ricercati nei paesi sviluppati come Europa, Stati Uniti e nei diversi paesi dell’Asia stessa.

L’educazione delle ragazze sta crescendo e trovano porte aperte in ogni settore del lavoro. Anche se, se analizziamo caso per caso, ancora ci sono tante cose da cambiare per essere totalmente respettate e riconosciute nella loro dignità di donne.

In base a questo cambiamento radicale della società Indiana la mancanza delle vocazione è un fenomeno  molto evidente nelle congregazione femminili.

Oggi i giovani sono cercatori di novità, di segni concreti, di nuove creatività,  di nuove conoscenze, voglione essere liberi e individualisti.

Per questo anche i giovani che vogliono seguire Gesù incontrono queste realtà ed è molto difficile per loro abbracciare uno stile di vita molto sistematico, misurarsi con le strutture e le regole.

In questi tre anni di esperienza nell’ accompagnamento delle formanti posso dire che tocchiamo il cuore dei giovani soltando con l’esempio della nostra vita, di una vita santa, guidata dallo Spirito Santo e intrisa di tanta preghiera. 

Io credo che oggi la Chiesa ha bisogno di nuovi santi come santa Teresa di Avila, San Giovanni della Croce, Francesco di Assisi, San Vincenzo Pallotti per rinnovare i carismi nella Chiesa con le nuove prospettive della vita religiosa.

Greetings from India, I am Sr. Judy Cheruvally. I am working with the Postulants. In the present batch there are three candidates: Rashmi, Amrita and Krupa. They come from the different states of India and each one has her  own language, culture, and traditions. In India normally candidates enter to the convent after the higher secondary school then after a year of experience in the community they are sent to complete the study of twelfth class or pre-university.

In these three initial years of formation the formees acquire experience of community life, prayer, community activities, learn the English language, come to know the life of St. Vincent,  basic catechism, learn to pray with the community and at the end of these three years they make a discernment on their call. Many girls return to home after this period.

The aspirants who remain enter to the pre-postulantcy period  for 6 months after that they continue the Postulatncy formation for one year.  When we began  formation in India,  I was in formation with both group of postulants and juniors for many years. Now entering again after so many years of gap in formation I see great changes in young people’s mentality, attitudes, characteristics and in interpersonal relationships and also in faith level. Young people are suffocated with things that seems to be  indispensable in their lives.

Because the various possibilities of studies according to their aptitudes offered them higher ambitions, the friends influences to have a better choice in life, the fears and uncertainties of life also are the strong temptations to leave the religious vocation. India being a very advanced nation on information technology and communication, young people are very much sought after and wanted in developed countries like Europe, the United States and in the different parts of Asia itself.

Education of girls made a tremendous change in the society to open the doors in every areas of works and brought equality in all the sectors of life. If we analyze case by case there are still so much to change to be respected and recognized the dignity of women in India. At the base of this radical changes causing today reducing the vocations in the women congregation.

Today young people are seekers of novelties; of concrete signs, of new creativity, they seek freedom and individualistic life.

The young people who want to follow Jesus encounter all these realities and it is very difficult to embrace a life very systematised, measured by structures and rules. In these three years of my experience in the accompaniment of postulants I can say that we can touch the hearts of young people only with the example of our life, of a holy life guided by the Holy Spirit and prayer.

Yes, I believe,  today  the Church needs saints such as St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Vincent Pallotti and like many other saints to renew the Charisms of the Congregations with the new prospects of religious life.
